Skype / Telephone Counseling

Dr Sarah Lineham offers people the opportunity to have their treatment sessions via Skype or Telephone. Sarah firmly believes that a person’s difficulty in physically accessing a psychologist should not mean that they miss out on psychological services.

Why Do People Choose Skype/Telephone Counselling?

  • People choose Skype/Telephone Counselling in situations where they cannot physically attend face-to-face appointments. This may be due to remote or overseas location, physical and/or medical difficulties or personal preference.
  • People who live in remote areas often have difficulty getting to appointments with a psychologist, or finding a locally based psychologist who works specifically with the problems they wish to address.
  • People who reside overseas or are temporarily employed overseas might wish to link in with an Australian psychologist. In this case, treatment can be conducted entirely via Skype; or after beginning with Skype overseas, clients can begin face-to-face appointments once they return to Australia.
  • People who work shift work or long hours can find it difficult to attend appointments during business hours or between their shifts and prefer the flexibility of a Skype/Telephone appointment.
  • People affected by medical and psychological difficulties that physically prevent them from leaving their home have limited options to access psychological treatment and find Skype/Telephone counselling their only choice.

How Does Skype/Telephone Counselling Work?

Psychological treatment using Skype/Telephone counselling is conducted in a very similar manner as face-to-face treatment. Counselling begins with a thorough assessment of your current problems in order to provide you with the support you need and develop treatment strategies that are the most likely to work for you.

Sarah pays particular attention to ensuring that her clients feel comfortable with her and regularly reviews clients’ progress to make sure that the Skype/Telephone counselling format is appropriate for clients’ conditions and most importantly, that it is working.
