Psychology Services for PTSD & Sexual Abuse

Dr Sarah Lineham has extensive experience working with children and adults affected by Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD can occur in response to traumatic events such as car accidents, other accidents, natural disasters, family violence, sexual assault and being a victim or a witness to a crime or violence.

Sarah has an in-depth understanding of the symptoms of PTSD, the effect PTSD has on a person and how difficult it can sometimes be to attend counselling. Sarah provides a supportive counselling environment and psychological treatment strategies proven to be effective with people who have experienced trauma.

Throughout her 18 years as a psychologist, Sarah has worked with children and adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and/or family violence (such as emotional, physical or verbal abuse). Many of these clients are disclosing their experience of abuse for the very first time, or are returning to counselling again to try and get some help.

Sarah understands how difficult it is to talk about abuse, and respects clients’ needs to take their time and to make their own choices about what they share with her. Where it is has been requested, Sarah has supported many clients who have made the choice to pursue legal action.

"In trauma recovery the objective is for the past to become a very tiny part of your very large, confident, capable and free self".

(Michele Rosenthal, Author)

"When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak"

(Audre Lorde, writer, 1934-1992)
